Job Description

This position is for a Technical Specialist for Module Thermal Management PMT. This position will be responsible for setting thermal management strategy and architecture to meet overall performance and safety requirements for GM's various BEV programs. The Technical Specialist is the subject matter expert on components responsible for module cooling like coolant plate and adhesives. The person is also responsible for establishing, communicating, and assuring compliance to the global BOD/BOM/BOP for the module thermal management sub-systems and components.

Job position will be responsible for specifying and balancing requirements, definition, execution and evaluation of designs and performance targets, analysis, development, test procedures, testing and validation of major engineering projects where a substantial amount of creativity and initiative are involved as well as a high level of independent judgment. The broad scope of responsibilities includes components and systems and technical mentoring of other engineers. This position will need to exercise technical direction over other engineers or engineering support personnel and may have work direction responsibilities over a group with specific engineering objectives. Capable of managing very broad or numerous projects with a high degree of difficulty. Actively engages in team issue resolution and supplier leveraging.

Key Responsibilities:

Global Harmonization of Commodity Strategies

  • Ensure global strategies are developed and defined and are globally harmonized.
  • Ensure rich technical discussion / direction for overall commodity.

Develop & Maintain BOM Strategy & Reuse

  • Commodity benchmarking, both performance testing and physical analysis
  • Develop/define and globally harmonized strategies. Ensure rich technical discussion / direction for overall commodity.

Lead Technology & Innovation of Commodity

  • Expert representative of commodity
  • Strategy integration & cross-subsystem/component support
  • Drive technology to future vision (5/10 yr plan)
  • Develop annual benchmarking budget
  • Commodity benchmarking, both performance testing and physical analysis
  • Ensure compliance to GM safety practices
  • Regulatory advisory
  • Support OIR (Open Investigation Review) & SFADA (Safety & Field Action Decision Authority) Processes
  • Lead *S PRTS (Tether; Read-Across; PRD)

Create/Maintain Base Knowledge Documents
  • Develop and maintain standard work templates and documents (Base Knowledge documents) for commodity
  • Review and approve component level templates
  • Support BOP activities

Provide Execution Support
  • Review and approve component level requirement deviations
  • Serve as liaison to advanced team for technical development
  • Review and Approve SOR
  • Support supplier evaluations
  • Support implementation of design
  • Support peer reviews activities
  • Attend meetings and provide strategy direction where appropriate

Lead/Support Problem Solving activities impacting commodity
  • Provide component specific guidance on problem solving (including system level problem solving e.g. ERGO, RRAB deployment, fit/finish as appropriate)
  • Participate in CAE Reviews

Support Mentoring/Coaching
  • Share lessons/learnings with global stakeholders expediently
  • Ensure regular global learning symposiums/trainings are conducted
  • Provide technical guidance/direction to Technical Specialists, Lead DRE, Chief Engineers & Program Team as appropriate
  • Support activities to mentor, train and coach product and program engineering roles
  • Create and maintain training materials

Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Physics, or Chemistry
  • At least 5years of experienceinRESS Battery systems
  • In-depth knowledge of requirements engineering process (FMEA, BOD, BOM, etc.)
  • In-depth knowledge of verification and validation processes
  • In-depth knowledge of RESS Module development, testing and associated tools
  • Understanding of hardware design and failure modes
  • Understanding of engineering theory and principles of operation of mechanical/electrical mechanisms
  • Thorough knowledge of design development and test engineering, manufacturing and assembly operations, engineering processes and procedures.
  • Highly developed oral and written communications skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally within Battery and across other SMTs.
  • Demonstrated problem solving ability.
  • High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others, motivate employees, and elicit work output
  • Very high level of analytical problem-solving skills where problems are very unusual and extremely difficult.
  • Must be willing and able to travel as needed globally to support the business as needed (estimated0-20%)
  • Strong people leadership and coaching capabilities

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master of Science in Engineering, Physics, or Chemistry
  • At least 10 years of experience in BEV Battery thermal systems and related component engineering
  • Through knowledge on thermal interface materials and adhesives
  • Highly developed oral and written communication skills
  • High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others, motivate employees, and elicit work output
  • High level of analyticalproblem-solvingskills where problems may be unusual and difficult to resolve
