Job Description

This is a Hybrid position within our IT Organization. The role will allow employees to work offsite but will also require onsite work based on business needs. The selected candidate will be expected to commute to the innovation center to which they are assigned as their primary GM facility. Relocation may be provided.

About the Global Digital Electric Vehicle Commerce (DEV IT) team at General Motors:
This new team is leading the way with ideating, incubating, and delivering new technology for General Motors electric vehicles. Our team includes best-in-industry engineers, product owners, and designers who have an ambition to move at lightning speed, deliver world-class software, and deliver high-quality, innovative software that delights our customers.

Our UI/UX Designers, collaborate with other designers, researchers, software developers, and business stakeholders to craft meaningful experiences for our customers through thoughtful design. The ideal candidate will have interaction and visual design skills, an understanding of user-centered design, and a passion for designing digital products. Our UI/UX Designers work in a highly collaborative environments working across many disciplines.We regularly work on cutting edge technologies - understanding and inventing new designs and integration patterns along the way.

  • Collaborate closely with team members to craft world-class user experiences across all products and platforms for vehicle features
  • Balance user needs, technical constraints, and business objectives to solve problems effectively
  • Craft interaction designs, advocating usability and user-centered design principles
  • Create design deliverables to communicate your work including sketches, logic and flow, prototypes, wireframes, mockups, and specifications
  • Measure and analyze user experience research and testing to validate designs, get user feedback, and identify opportunities to improve the customer experience
  • Work with product owners and key stakeholders to brainstorm and identify opportunities, executing them as a flawless part of the overall user experience

Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications
  • 4+ years of experience designing and developing user interfaces, digital products, or complex software applications across a range of channels
  • Formal degree or training in HCI, Product Design, Interaction Design, Visual Design or related
  • Experience with scrum and agile methodology
  • Experience incorporating research into the design process
  • Proficient in common design tools like Axure, Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, After Effects, InVision and Sketch
  • Strong portfolio with work samples showcasing expertise in user experience design, creativity, and depth of thought

Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficient in HTML5, CSS Javascript, JQuery, Angular
  • Ability to identify and apply technology to achieve design goals
  • Prototyping experience (software and/or hardware development experience a plus)
