Our Underwriting Guidelines Coordinator can be based out of a regional office, or fully remote if not within a reasonable commuting distance of an office location.

The primary responsibility of the UW Guidelines Coordinator position is to lead in the development, revision and implementation of underwriting guidelines, policies and procedures while maintaining and applying comprehensive knowledge of ProAssurance products. Coordinate the development of a consistent underwriting approach for all ProAssurance companies, incorporating State-specific requirements when required. Support the development and maintenance of a processing manual that outlines processing steps that support the overall underwriting approach.

70% Analysis and Design

Lead the effort in the development of new or revised underwriting guidelines, policies and procedures from an approach and process perspective and their implementation. Coordinate project needs and timelines with other departments. Make independent decisions in the development of the underwriting guidelines. Maintain underwriting guidelines manuals on behalf of ProAssurance, including managing the process of updating all manual holders with additions, deletions and/or revisions to the guidelines. Maintain archival repository of former guidelines. Work independently to prepare and effectively present comprehensive reports and recommendations to all levels of management. Maintain current knowledge of marketplace trends related to the healthcare field.

25% Relationships and Leadership

At the staff and management levels, work extensively with Underwriting, Business Development, Claims, Risk Management, Finance, Legal and Information Technology on issues of mutual concern. Interact with all levels of management to aid in more complex issues. Serve as a technical resource to staff as it relates to underwriting guidelines. Work with the Operations Business Analyst to ensure proper and systematic application of rules, forms, and rates as they relate to UW guidelines. Support training efforts of appropriate staff members in underwriting processes and procedures to ensure consistency among Underwriting.

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities:

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, required
  • Minimum four years medical malpractice underwriting experience with demonstrated knowledge of medical standards of care
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with casualty and medical malpractice insurance underwriting principles
  • Proficient with Word, Excel, Outlook and software programs related to underwriting
  • Possess strong research skills, including proficiency in internet-based research tools and resources
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills
  • Possess excellent planning, time management, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to evaluate and determine project priorities
  • Ability to work in a team environment and independently to meet objectives and deadlines
