Description: Our client is currently seeking a Policy Specialist

Position Description

  • Role Title: Policy Specialist
  • Duration: 8 Months
  • Work Location: Hybrid work: Tues-Thurs in the office. Monday & Friday remote Work Schedule: Normal PST business hours, Monday - Friday

Project Overview: As a Policy Specialist, you ensure the success of your team by proactively identifying problems, analyzing issues independently and developing recommendations to drive change as a legal content product expert. You know how to get things done and can influence without authority. You understand how to influence cross functional leaders and support your colleagues to do the same. Google faces a new era of legal content policy and standards challenges that are growing in complexity, at an unprecedented scale. The decisions we make and the solutions we launch promote trust in Google by preserving user expression. You'll also handle legal removal requests (including government requests) from receipt to resolution, which entails reviewing and processing online content based on internal policy.

Overall Responsibilities:
  • Analyze policy and legal challenges facing technology platforms and make recommendations on how Google should address them.
  • Partner with technical teams to drive and coordinate the development and maintenance of legal removals tools and processes.
  • Engage and communicate with users, governments, and other internal and external stakeholders on policy issues, and resolve high-profile policy escalations to ensure legal policy analysis and recommendations consider all teams' perspectives.
  • This role requires the ability to review or to be exposed to sensitive content (examples: hate speech, violent extremism, nudity, etc) and may involve occasional off-hours coverage rotations. Process legal removal requests (including government requests) from receipt to resolution.
Mandatory Skills/Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years relevant work experience.
  • Passion for user trust and advocacy
  • Experience in policy, legal operations, regulatory environment, or content moderation in similar industries.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex challenges into simple and clear language.
  • Experience working with, influencing and negotiating with a broad array of cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Experience using data/technology to identify and solve complex business challenges or experience diagnosing operational pain points and leading efforts to reduce these issues.
Non-Essential Skills/Qualifications:
  • Fluency in a second language
  • Expertise is technical writing
